How to Prevent Burn-In on Garmin AMOLED Watches
Loving your Garmin AMOLED watch?
That bright, colorful screen is 🔥 — but did you know AMOLED screens are prone to burn-in if you're not careful?

Unfortunately, in the words of Garmin "burn-in is normal screen behaviour for AMOLED devices". But what is burn-in? Burn-in is where a permanent visual "stain" remains on the screen, it's usually caused by displaying an image on the screen at high levels of brightness for a period of time.
Thankfully there are a few things you can do to try and avoid burn-in if you have an AMOLED screen. We highly recommend reviewing the points below and setting your watch up accordingly to protect your screen from burn-in:
-
Don't use high brightness levels, particularly during general use or while recording an activity.
-
Avoid using watch faces with lots of colour.
-
Don't use always on mode while you are wearing your watch during general use or while recording an activity.
-
Reduce the screen timeout before the watch screen turns off and goes black.
-
If you are not using a particular app but have it open and visible on the screen, then close it and return to your watch face.
-
Enable auto-brightness to let your watch adjust automatically to lighting conditions.
In addition to helping you protect your watch screen, the tips above will also help to extend your battery life between charges :).
We've also designed our Hoolan Garmin app with burn-in protection in mind:
-
We use as much black as possible on the screen for AMOLED devices, particularly on the recording screen.
-
On the recording screen we try to keep content to a minimum, we don't display any colourful images or static lines to separate elements on the screen.
-
We update the recording screen every second to give pixels on the screen a chance to switch off and take a rest :)
