Compatibility
Compatible with 88 Garmin models:
Every Garmin watch that supports CIQ v3.4.0 and above is able to install the Hoolan app, with the exception of a few models that don't have enough memory to run the app.
If your watch is unable to install the app, then you'll still be able upload your sessions via Garmin Connect to the Hoolan phone app for analysis, by using our Garmin integration.
Jump tracking
Depending on your watch model, Hoolan will be able to track your jump data as well as your GPS data. We will check your watch’s jump compatibility during set up.
In order to track jumps, your watch model has to:
- Be able to install the Hoolan app
- Have both an accelerometer and gyroscope that can output data at a minimum of 100 hz
For the best jump accuracy, you will need to calibrate your watch before each session.

Jump Calibration
We have faced significant challenges getting the data we need from Garmin watches to accurately calculate jump heights, airtime and jump distance. We have worked extremely hard on this, and are super stoked with what we have achieved, but until a fix has been made by Garmin to the sensor data that we receive, anyone who is wishing to accurately track their jump data will need to calibrate their watch before each session. We are also unable to track jump distance with the accuracy that we're happy with until this change is made.
We have made the calibration as quick and as easy as possible - full calibration details here.
Calibration is temporary
We have been petitioning Garmin hard to make the fix to their sensor data which will allow us to remove the calibration step, and have been assured that it is coming mid 2025, so watch this space. In the meantime, we hope you agree that calibration is worth it to get the real time jump data as you ride.
Hoolan's Features
QUICK START FEATURE
Select your kite/ wing/ sail and board type on your watch for your session, and your most recent combinations (up to five) will be saved for you to quickly select from the next time you go out.
PRE AND POST SESSION
Hoolan app detects when you’ve properly got going on the water, and everything before and after is put into pre/ post session data and won’t count towards your stats. This means you can start recording as you’re setting up, which gives the GPS time to warm up and get your accurate location, as well as giving you time to calibrate your watch, if you’re jumping.
JUMP DETECTION & ALERTS
Choose which activities you’d like to record jumps for, and save battery when recording sports where you’re not jumping. If you’re boosting big, choose to only be alerted when you’ve jumped over a certain height threshold.

CONFIGURE YOUR MEASUREMENT UNITS
Choose whether you want to see your stats in metric, imperial or a mix of both on your watch! You can add nautical units if you wish, on your phone.
Top Tips
1. Make sure that your watch face is facing up to the sky whilst recording, for the best GPS signal.

2. Open the watch app up whilst you're setting up, to give the GPS time to warm up and find your location. Once you're ready, select your kite/ wing/ sail and board type and then start.
3. If jumping, calibrate your watch BEFORE you launch your kite or get out on the water as you will need to be still and have the use of both hands.
4. To calibrate your watch for jumping, you MUST stand still and either hold the top and bottom of your watch face with the fingers of your other hand to stabilise your watch whilst you rotate your wrist, or alternatively take your watch off to tilt your watch (this is the fastest way). Just tilting your wrist on its own without stabilising it does not work effectively and calibration will fail..
5. Disable any alerts you may have set up
6. Set Hoolan up as a favourite on your watch so you can get to it quickly from the home screen.
7. Try not to shake your wrist too aggressively. Garmin can't measure acceleration over 8 G so any violent hand shaking may trigger a false jump. You can, however, delete any false jumps in the iPhone app (not yet available on our Android app)
8. Set up the information that is important to you on your watch screen via 'Settings' on the Hoolan app
9. Set up your jump detection and alerts via 'Settings' on the Hoolan app
