Light & Dark Mode, Low-Speed Session Improvements and More

We've just shipped a new update, and there's something in here for everyone.

Light & dark mode - with Apple's new Liquid Glass design

You can now update your iPhone's display settings to switch Hoolan between light and dark mode (already available on Android), giving you a more comfortable viewing experience wherever you are - be it a bright beach or a dimly lit van.

We've also adopted Apple's new Liquid Glass design interface, which gives the whole app a cleaner, more modern feel. It’s a subtle change, but you’ll notice it straight away.

Low-speed session improvements

One of Hoolan's unique features is that we detect when you've properly got going before breaking your session down into runs, transitions and jumps, and counting data towards your session stats.

This means time recorded before you're actually riding - launching your kite, landing, wading out to deeper water - doesn't dilute your stats. It also gives you flexibility over when you start and stop recording on your watch. Full details on our pre and post session feature.

This, however, didn't work quite so well for very low-speed sessions. If your riding didn't reach the speed threshold needed to trigger the start of your session, some or all of your runs and transitions would be held in pre or post session and wouldn't count towards your session stats at all.

We've improved how this works. No matter how low your speed, your session now breaks down into runs and transitions and your stats are fully recorded, whilst still retaining the benefits of the pre and post session functionality for faster sessions. This change applies to all new sessions going forward.

If this issue has affected any of your previous sessions, you are able to fix them by using our crop feature:

  1. Go to the three dot menu on your session details screen

  2. Select Crop - it will open up your tracks on the map

  3. Press Save

That's it. Simply opening the crop screen and pressing save will trigger the full breakdown/ recalculation of your session. If you need to tweak it at all, use the crop controls to adjust your tracks - crop session help.

Wind speed in metres per second

This one came directly from our Nordic riders. You can now view wind speed in m/s alongside the existing options on our iPhone app. This will be coming for Android users in our next release. To change your settings from Hoolan iPhone app: Profile > Settings > Preferences > Units

Update via the App Store or Google Play and let us know what you think. 🤙
